Remembering MOMA

Back in Albury, hit the ground running, so lovely to see everyone again. What a special place we have here. Re-read blog entries and then found some shots from MOMA taken Tuesday September 27th in MOMA.  This museum on 53rd was my first destination on my own. It was very exciting to see the Willem de Kooning Retrospective. Photography was not allowed in that extensive show but that makes you look more intently.
The collection is spectacular and below are some pieces.
 Wonderful Seurat

Slow and carefully placed marks, mesmerising

One of my favourite early works by Gauguin
This is a huge work by Rousseau - amazing to see up close
James Ensor, just wonderful, the beauty of the colour and surface is a foil for the intense unease of the subject
Detail from the Ensor, terrific to see the marks by the artist
Ensor again
Odilon Redon
This was spectacular - it was cleaned in 2004. It is vibrant and bristles with energy
The contrast of high chromatic colour against the tertiaries is spectacular

The surface varies and is great to study
There are discords
The negatives areas are so energetic
Very boomy boomy
When you see this work for real the considered parts of the whole remind you of what a huge intellectual effort to paint it must have been for Picasso
Temperature shifts construct the planes
These works are just great to see
Beautiful
This Mondrian is very painterly and considered
Close
This painted bronze by Picasso is one of my favourite works
There are some great works by Futurists - seen them in books so often over the years what a treat to see them physically there
